March 07, 2008
India's BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.) plans to invest four billion Rupees (US$99.6 million; US$1=40.2 Rupees) in purchasing additional telecom equipment for CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) network expansion across 500 towns in India, according to a report by Dow Jones International News.

For its CDMA network, BSNL aims to establish a huge capacity for CDMA mobile services and provide roaming facility in the initial phase. According to the Dow Jones report, via the network expansion, BSNL aims to compete with other operators such as RCom (Reliance Communications), which has around 38 million CDMA subscribers across the country.
